Meet Joshua Youngblood – Our Community Engagement Specialist

At Cinder, we’re all about connecting awesome people. People like Joshua Youngblood! We are fired up  to welcome him as our very first Community Engagement Specialist. In this new Cinder position, Joshua will connect with the Portland Metro community and facilitate our high-impact social equity practices. Growing our team to intentionally expand our role in the community is a meaningful step for us! We can’t wait to partner with Joshua on our mission to create equitable environments where everyone can thrive.

Why We Need Community Engagement

Because we are a recruiting agency that focuses on Equity, Diversity & Inclusion, building deep relationships is essential. You can’t support your community without actually being in the community. If you want to help people who have been marginalized, you have to build trust, listen, and take consistent action based on their wants. Our experiences in EDI consulting and diverse recruiting have shown us this again and again. We also find deep joy in building these friendships and partnerships. We’re passionate about connecting with people in our community and working together to folks up.

Expanding our Community Activities

Over the years, we’ve been steadily building our community outreach. We have developed partnerships with organizations like Technology Association of Oregon (TAO), launched our award-winning “Cinder Connect Conversations” EDI panels, and even hosted hiring events with Novus Labs. This has all been fantastic, but … we want to do more! That’s where Joshua comes in. As our Community Engagement Specialist, he will expand our connections with people and organizations that share our goals of cultivating inclusive spaces.

Joshua Brings a Global Perspective

Joshua started his career working with service dedicated to disenfranchised communities, primarily helping with programs assisting refugees in their acclimation process after arriving in the states. He has spent the better part of the last decade working for varying international NGOs and non-profit organizations, helping teach English and coordinate community outreach in underfunded and impoverished countries. While overseas, he gained a wider perspective of how to assess needs, accumulate partnerships, and coordinate resources to better serve communities of diverse backgrounds. He has earned his Teaching English as a Foreign Language degree and structured much of his work around EDI training/awareness. Joshua looks forward to fostering new and meaningful relationships with his community and creating sustainable projects to further facilitate access to those most in need.
